Island Way Sorbet: My Pick for Summer Sweets

I love sorbets. I also love to pretend that I’m in the tropics. Presto! Island Way Sorbet. I found these treats strolling through the aisles of Costco the other day and decided to give ‘em a try. I was delighted.

I have always been a fan of sorbets that are served inside of real fruit shells. When I was younger my favorite dessert was from an old, authentic Italian restaurant that served peach sorbet in a real peach shell. There is something about serving it this way that makes the sorbet taste extra sweet and flavorful.

Plus, it’s fun!

These sorbets come in a variety of flavors including: Coconut, Pineapple, Pina Colada, Lemon, Pomegranate and Mango-Orange. They actually taste like the fruit they are supposed to, which is unreal to me. The sorbet is light and creamy and perfectly tart. For whatever reason, the real shells seem to protect the sorbets from over freezing, so they come right out of your freezer ready to enjoy.

The package I purchased from Costco had each little sorbet individually packed complete with a small, plastic spoon. They are a nice, quick and easy treat after dinner or as a new twist on party desserts. Forget the giant cake and try handing out these little goodies.

My favorite of the bunch would have to be the Pomegranate. The light pink sorbet served in a lemon shell is wonderfully sweet and tart with a hearty helping of citrus flavor from the shell. It will satisfy your tart-fix but does not cross the line in to Sour Patch Kids territory, thankfully.

These treats are PERFECT for your family; the kids will love them. Island Way Sorbets would be a great addition to your next summer party. It is refreshing to find a “cool” treat like this that actually tastes as good as it looks. They are even low fat! It doesn’t get much better than that.
